One queen per row, one per column, one per colored region and none of them can touch. Sounds like a standard constraint puzzle until you realize the color regions are the wildcard that makes every grid unique. Here’s today’s solution.
Today’s Queens Answer
Puzzle #749 — May 20, 2026
What makes Queens interesting
The grid is divided into colored regions — usually around 7 or 8 on a 7×7 board. Each region needs exactly one queen. Combined with the row, column, and no-touching rules, you get a puzzle that looks simple but requires real logical deduction to crack cleanly without guessing.
The non-adjacency rule is what trips most people up. Queens can’t be diagonally adjacent either, not just horizontally or vertically. That one rule quietly eliminates a lot of options you might not notice at first glance.
Where to start
Look for any region that’s entirely confined to one row or one column — that forces the queen’s position immediately. Then use those locked queens to eliminate possibilities in neighboring regions. Work the constraints outward from your certainties rather than trying every option.
Mark cells as impossible with X as you go. Seeing the board fill up with Xs makes the remaining valid cells much easier to spot.
