What Is NYT Sudoku?
NYT Sudoku is the daily number puzzle published in easy, medium, and hard versions. The rule never changes: every row, every column, and every 3 by 3 box must contain the digits 1 through 9 without repeats.
What changes from one board to the next is how much information the grid gives you up front and how many layers of deduction it takes to finish cleanly.
How to Play NYT Sudoku
Sudoku is solved through elimination rather than guesswork. Each empty square narrows down as you compare its row, its column, and its 3 by 3 box, and the board gradually opens once a few certain numbers are in place.
- Scan rows and columns for digits that can only fit in one position.
- Check each 3 by 3 box to see which numbers are still missing.
- Use confirmed numbers to eliminate options from nearby rows, columns, and boxes.
- If one section stalls, move to another part of the grid and return once new placements create fresh openings.
