Spelling Bee is the kind of NYT puzzle that can support several different play styles. Some solvers want a quick check on the letter set, some only want the pangrams, and some would rather keep everything hidden until the end of a long solve.
This page is arranged in that same order, so you can take the smallest possible hint first and only open the full list if you really need it.

What Is NYT Spelling Bee?
Spelling Bee is the New York Times word game built around a seven-letter hive. Every valid word must be at least four letters long, must include the center letter, and can reuse letters as often as needed.
That structure is what gives the puzzle its long-lasting appeal. You are not looking for one hidden word, but for a whole network of smaller and larger words built from the same compact letter set.
How to Play NYT Spelling Bee
The best way to approach Spelling Bee is to build from short, dependable words toward longer patterns. Once you understand how the center letter controls the board, the puzzle starts to feel less like random word hunting and more like structured discovery.
- Every valid word must include the center letter.
- Words must be at least four letters long.
- Letters can be reused as often as needed.
- Pangrams use all seven letters at least once and often help reveal the rest of the board.
A Quick Bit of Spelling Bee History
Spelling Bee was created by Frank Longo after a suggestion from Will Shortz. It first appeared in The New York Times Magazine in 2015 and later became part of the digital Games lineup, where it found a much larger daily audience.
