In Minecraft, players encounter many different mobs while exploring the Overworld. Some are mythical creatures created purely for the game, while others are inspired by real-world animals. Mojang regularly introduces new mobs, but many players still want a world filled with more wildlife and smaller creatures.

That is where the Critters and Companions mod comes in. This popular Minecraft mod expands the natural ecosystem by adding a variety of small animals, insects, and unique creatures. If you enjoy exploring a lively and nature-filled world, this mod can make your Minecraft experience feel far more alive. Below is a complete guide to the Critters and Companions mod, including how to download and install it.

What Does the Critters and Companions Mod Add?

The Critters and Companions mod focuses on expanding Minecraft’s wildlife with smaller creatures that rarely appear in the base game. Instead of massive mobs or fantasy monsters, this mod introduces realistic animals, insects, and aquatic creatures.

Another highlight is how well these creatures blend into the game. The developers designed them to match the visual style and behavior of vanilla Minecraft mobs, so they feel like a natural part of the world.

Along with new mobs, the mod also introduces a few unique items and blocks tied to the creatures it adds.

Here are some of the most interesting mobs included in the Critters and Companions mod.

All Mobs in the Critters and Companions Mod

1. Otter

Otters spawn in rivers and interact with clams. They can help players open clams and obtain pearls. These pearls can later be crafted into decorative items like a pearl necklace.

2. Ferret

Ferrets appear in plains and forest biomes. Players can tame them using raw rabbit. Once tamed, ferrets can hunt rabbits in the wild. After being fed raw chicken, they can also dig up hidden loot, although this ability has a five-minute cooldown.

3. Koi Fish

Koi fish spawn in rivers and can be collected using a bucket. When several koi fish gather in a pond, players nearby receive the Luck status effect, which is rarely used in vanilla Minecraft.

4. Dumbo Octopus

The dumbo octopus lives in deep ocean biomes. If a player starts drowning underwater, this creature can assist by creating a temporary bubble helmet to help them breathe.

5. Sea Bunny

Sea bunnies spawn in oceans and drop sea bunny slime when interacted with. This slime can be used to craft unique sea bunny slime blocks.

6. Dragonfly

Dragonflies hover over rivers and wetlands. Players can craft dragonfly armor using three ingots and place it on the insect, adding a fun and unusual interaction.

7. Leaf Insect

Leaf insects spawn in forest biomes and blend into the environment thanks to their camouflage-like appearance. One of their fun features is that they dance when music is played nearby.

8. Red Panda

Red pandas appear in jungle biomes and sleep during the daytime. Players can tame them using sweet berries. Once tamed, they help protect players by scaring away many aggressive neutral mobs.

9. Shima Enaga

This small bird spawns in snowy biomes and can be tamed with seeds. It mainly adds life and visual charm to colder environments.

10. Jumping Spider

Jumping spiders can be tamed using dragonfly wings. After being tamed, they defend the player from hostile mobs. They also drop jumping spider silk, which can be used to craft useful items like:

  • Silk leash
  • Silk grappling hook

Silk can also be obtained from silk cocoons found in the world.
